Dancing since she was young, Mia has maintained multidisciplinary training in ballet, contemporary, lyrical, modern, hip hop, jazz, and tap. She was born and raised in Houston, Texas, where she trained with the pre-professional company, BalletForte, under Michael Banigan and Dianne Jarrell. With BalletForte, she performed in multiple RDA Festivals and ballets such as The Nutcracker, Sleeping Beauty, and Giselle. She also served as Captain of the Dulles Dolls Dance Team under the mentorship of Angela Hayes. As Captain, she has led the team to win multiple state championships and awards at MA Dance and Crowd Pleasers competitions. Now, she is a proud new staff-member of MA Dance and is eager to give back to the Texas drill team community.
Currently, Mia attends the University of Texas at Austin for a B.S. in Communication & Leadership and a B.A. in Psychology. As an undergraduate student, she was the director of the Steel Dance Company where she explored choreographing historical, social, and personal narratives for performance. She has also worked with local companies like ARCOS in their 2019 production of Ether Junk, Early Era Collective’s Of Thee I Swing, Tapestry’s Of Mice and Music, and Articulate Austin's 2020 season. Striving to make dance enjoyable and approachable for everyone, she also teaches at various studios and programs in the Austin area. As her professional teaching and dancing path develops, Mia is learning how to develop her own voice and artistry. Whether through choreography or dance, she is continuously focusing on meaningful movement.
After graduating, Mia will continue to perform in and teach the multidisciplinary applications of the art. Outside of dance, she enjoys competitive boxing and exploring the State Parks.
